Moving home in Jeddah during the summer? A practical guide to the best hours to move, shielding leather, wood and appliances from the sun, and getting the new flat ready, with a dabab working 24 hours across Jeddah.
Moving furniture in Jeddah summer heat is a different job from moving in winter, and anyone who has carried a sofa on an August afternoon knows it without being told. At Jeddah Dabab Express we plan summer moves around dawn and the hours after maghrib, cover and strap the load, and drive off straight away so nothing sits in the sun a minute longer than it must. Call or WhatsApp 0544866865 at any hour with your district, floor and what you are moving, and we suggest the best slot and the final price before loading. (A dabab is a small pickup truck with an open rear bed, used across Jeddah for small moves and deliveries.)
We wrote this guide from daily work on Jeddah streets. It covers the best hours to move, what happens to leather, wood, plastic and electronics when heat meets sea humidity, what to keep out of the load altogether, and how to prepare the new home so your furniture arrives into a cool room. The aim is simple: your things should arrive the way they left, and neither you nor the crew should burn energy in heat that could have been avoided.
- Dawn until about eight, and after maghrib until midnight, are the best summer hours.
- Eleven until asr is the hardest window; if you must use it, have everything ready before the dabab arrives.
- Leather, MDF, plastic and screens suffer most from sun and humidity.
- Medicines, candles, perfumes and food travel in your air-conditioned car, not in the dabab bed.
- The clock does not change the price: one piece inside the district from SAR 65, a room between neighbouring districts from SAR 110.

Why summer moves in Jeddah are harder
Jeddah is a coastal city, so its summer heat never arrives alone: it comes with heavy humidity that keeps the air close even in the evening. Daytime temperatures can approach forty degrees and sometimes pass it, and the humidity means sweat does not dry and the body tires quickly. A minute of effort at noon is worth two at dawn, and a piece that is easy to carry in winter becomes heavy in sweating, slipping hands.
Heat affects three sides of a move at once: the crew, the furniture and the time. Movers need water and short breaks, leather, wood and plastic react to direct sun and to heat trapped under covers, and everything takes longer because it is done with more care. A move that takes two hours in winter can need three at noon, yet returns to roughly its normal length when you book it at dawn or in the evening.
Jeddah districts also vary. Areas near the sea such as Al Shati, Obhur and Al Hamra carry more humidity, so the bigger risk to MDF and metal hinges is moisture rather than heat itself. Inland districts in the east and south such as Al Samer, Al Harazat and Al Ajawid are a little drier, but the sun is harsher on open streets and some building entrances have no shade at all. We know these differences and plan your slot around them.
The best summer hours, slot by slot
What is the best time to move furniture in Jeddah summer? The direct answer: dawn until about eight, then after maghrib. Here is each part of the day as we see it in the field, so you can choose what suits you and both buildings:
| Slot | Summer rating | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Dawn to 8 am | Best | Mild temperature, empty roads, easy parking, crew at its freshest |
| 8 am to 11 am | Good | Heat starts rising and traffic builds with work and school runs |
| 11 am to asr | Avoid if you can | Peak sun and humidity, surfaces heat fast, work slows |
| Asr to maghrib | Acceptable | Weaker sun but asphalt and walls still hold the heat |
| Maghrib to midnight | Excellent | The most requested summer slot, kinder air, shops open if you need something |
| After midnight | Very good | Empty roads and easy parking, with care for sleeping neighbours |
We work 24 hours, so pick the slot that suits you and we plan around it.
One point many people miss: an evening slot needs coordination in some buildings and compounds, especially where a guard closes the gate at a set hour or the service lift is switched off at night. Ask the guard or landlord a day ahead, book a shared lift, and warn neighbours if the stairway is narrow. Those few minutes stop a loaded dabab waiting in front of a locked gate, which is exactly what you do not want on a humid summer night.
What heat and humidity do to your furniture
Not every piece reacts to heat in the same way. A solid wooden sofa copes better than faux leather, metal better than plastic, and a well-sealed carton protects its contents better than an open bag. The table lists the items most at risk and what we do with each, so you know where to focus while preparing:
| Item | What heat does to it | How we protect it |
|---|---|---|
| Leather sofas and chairs | Fading, cracking of faux leather, sticky surface | A cotton blanket first, an outer cover on top, loaded last to come off first |
| MDF furniture | Swollen edges in humidity, loose hinges | Wrapped dry, film removed soon after arrival |
| Painted solid wood | Fine cracks in the finish from direct heat | Blanket under the reflective cover, never left in the sun |
| Plastic and light chairs | Softening and warping if pressed while hot | Nothing heavy on top, loaded from shade |
| Screens and electronics | Condensation when they suddenly enter a cool room | Wrapped, carried upright, left to cool before use |
| Mattresses and cushions | Absorb damp and smells if sealed in plastic too long | A clean cover removed on arrival, room aired |
| Paintings, photos and frames | Mounted prints lift, frames expand | Stiff cardboard, carried upright between soft pieces |
The mistake we see most each summer is wrapping furniture tightly in stretch film and leaving it for days before the move. Film protects from scratches and dust, but in Jeddah humidity it traps damp air on the surface, leaving marks on leather, smells in fabric and swelling at wood edges. The right way is to wrap on the day itself, over a blanket or cardboard, and unwrap in the new home within hours, not days. Our guide to packing furniture before moving in Jeddah explains the methods in detail.

Reflective cover or net: when we use each
The dabab bed is open, which is its strength for narrow lanes and long pieces, but in summer it means the load faces the sun directly. During the day we cover the load with a light reflective sheet that turns away much of the sunlight, strapped at the sides so it does not flap against the furniture. At dawn and in the evening a net over the blankets is enough to hold the load and stop light items lifting. In both cases the cover does not block heat entirely, but it cuts the direct exposure that causes fading and cracking, and a short route with no stops does the rest.
Appliances in summer
A fridge needs switching off well before the move so it can defrost and dry, and in summer the meltwater runs faster and heavier, so put a towel underneath and empty the bottom drawer. A washing machine needs its hoses fully drained so no warm water sits inside. Screens and electronics moving from a hot bed into an air-conditioned room can gather condensation inside, so do not switch them on at once; let them reach room temperature and follow the manufacturer’s guidance. For the full detail on the three big appliances see our guide to moving a fridge, washer and TV in Jeddah, or book household appliance moving in Jeddah directly.
Things to keep out of the dabab bed in summer
Some small things have nothing to do with furniture, yet spoil within minutes in an open bed under the Jeddah sun. Gather them in one box or two bags and carry them yourself in your air-conditioned car, or leave them in the old home until the very end:
- Medicines: many are heat sensitive and some need refrigeration. Never pack them with general cartons.
- Candles, perfumes and cosmetics: wax melts, scents change and creams separate.
- Food: tins cope, chocolate, cheese and fridge contents do not. Empty the fridge a day before.
- House plants: they wilt in the bed, so take them in the car or last, in the evening.
- Aerosols and flammables: spray cans and strong cleaning products are never left in the heat.
- Documents and small valuables: passports, contracts, laptops and hard drives stay with you all day.
Steps for a comfortable summer move
A good summer move is made in the two days before it more than on the day itself. This is the order we follow with most customers in summer, with what we ask of you at each step:
- Call and choose the slot: tell us both districts, floors, lifts and what you are moving; we suggest dawn or evening based on size and give the final price.
- Send photos on WhatsApp: photos of big pieces and the building entrance help us judge whether one dabab is enough or you need two trips or a wanet furniture move.
- Prepare the new home: run the air conditioning there at least an hour before we arrive and check power and water, so furniture enters a cool room and the crew can catch a breath between trips.
- Prepare the old home: cartons sealed and numbered, the fridge off and dry, heat-sensitive things in your car.
- Arrival and wrapping: we arrive on time and wrap pieces in blankets, film and corner guards in the shade of the entrance, not on the open street.
- Orderly loading: heavy and sturdy items at the bottom, heat-sensitive ones in the middle away from the edges, then the cover and straps.
- No stops on the way: we head straight to the new home on the quieter road for the hour, such as Tahlia, King Abdulaziz Road or Madinah Road depending on where you are.
- Unloading and placing: sensitive pieces go first into cool rooms, then the rest, and we remove the film from leather and wood.
- Final check: you check the pieces with us and count the cartons, then we settle what was agreed.
Frankly, movers in summer get tired like anyone else. Cold water at the door and the air conditioning left on in the hall are not a favour; they shorten the move and protect your furniture, because rested hands hold a piece more steadily. In a building with no lift this matters even more, and our guide to moving without a lift in Jeddah explains how we handle upper floors.

Packing materials and crew in the heat
Materials behave differently in heat. Tape softens and loses grip in the sun, so we use good tape on clean, dry cardboard. Cartons stored in a damp room weaken and tear when lifted, so do not keep yours in the bathroom or kitchen. Thick cotton blankets work better in summer than plastic laid straight on a surface, because they let air through and absorb heat instead of trapping it.
On upper floors with no lift, we share the work so no single mover climbs the stairs again and again in the heat, take the heavy pieces first while energy is highest and leave light cartons for the end. Where it is safe, we lower some large pieces from a balcony with ropes, and we pad stair walls and banisters with blankets. If the bedroom or wardrobe needs taking apart, we dismantle, number and rebuild it in the new home as part of furniture dismantling and assembly in Jeddah.
Do prices change in summer?
We do not raise prices because it is summer, nor because the slot is at night. The price rests on what you actually move: number and size of pieces, distance between districts, floor and lift, and any dismantling. What can push a summer move up is what pushes any move up, such as long waits because things are not ready, or pieces added that were not mentioned on the call. What brings it down is preparing ahead, grouping everything into one trip and choosing the right vehicle from the start.
| Service | Price | Note |
|---|---|---|
| One piece or a trip within the district | from SAR 65 | At any hour |
| A room of furniture between neighbouring districts | from SAR 110 | With wrapping on the vehicle |
| A move from north to south Jeddah | from SAR 185 | Mixed load |
| Small / medium / large wanet | from SAR 140 / from SAR 230 / from SAR 320 | For loads bigger than a dabab |
| Split AC removal, move and refit | from SAR 230 | By a qualified technician |
| Furniture dismantling and assembly | Set by number of pieces | Ask for an itemised quote |
| Moves to Makkah and Taif | Set by load and destination | Ask for a trip quote |

Summer mistakes that repeat every year
These mistakes appear at the start of every summer, mostly from haste or from treating heat as a nuisance rather than something that affects the things themselves:
| Mistake | Result | Better choice |
|---|---|---|
| Booking noon because it is “the next free slot” | Longer move, tired crew, hot furniture | Wait for maghrib or book the next dawn |
| Wrapping furniture in plastic days ahead | Trapped damp, marks and smells | Wrap on the day, unwrap on arrival |
| Leaving the load in the bed during lunch or prayer | Long sun exposure | Drive straight there, pause after unloading |
| Packing medicines and perfumes in cartons | Spoiled contents | Carry them in the cool car |
| Switching on the TV and fridge at once | Condensation and faults | Wait as the manufacturer advises |
| Arriving at a new home with no power or AC | Furniture in a hot room, double fatigue | Check meters and pre-cool the flat |
For general mistakes in any move, summer or winter, see furniture moving mistakes in Jeddah. If you want the whole flat done in one day despite the heat, moving a flat in one day in Jeddah helps you split the day between dawn and evening.
When Ramadan falls in summer
When Ramadan falls in summer the time map turns over. Before maghrib Jeddah roads are at their calmest, but a fasting person is at their weakest and the heat at its peak, so we do not advise moving then. After iftar it gets busy around mosques and markets, then the period between taraweeh and suhoor becomes one of the best slots of all: kinder air, energy after the meal and reasonable streets. We cover this in a separate guide, moving furniture in Ramadan in Jeddah.
Choosing your slot and what to ask before booking
Choosing a summer slot is a practical decision based on three things: the size of the move, the two buildings and your own day. A move of one or two pieces can be done almost anytime, while a whole flat needs an early start or a start right after maghrib to finish before midnight. These are the questions we suggest asking anyone before you book:
- Do you work at dawn and after midnight, and does the price change with the hour?
- How do you cover the load in daytime — a sun cover or only a net?
- Is wrapping with blankets and film included?
- How many movers will come, and are they enough for a high floor with no lift in the heat?
- Does the load fit one trip, or is a wanet or two trips better?
- Will you drive straight to the new home after loading, with no other jobs on the way?
Coverage inside and outside Jeddah
We cover Jeddah north, south, east and centre: Obhur, Al Shati and Al Muhammadiyah in the north; Al Safa, Al Marwah, Al Naseem and Al Rawdah in the middle; Al Samer, Al Ajawid and Al Harazat in the east; Al Khumrah, Al Jamiah, Al Hindawiyah and Al Balad in the south and the old centre. The dabab is small enough for narrow lanes and older neighbourhoods that large trucks cannot reach, which cuts the time spent carrying in the sun. See the full list on the Jeddah districts page.
For moves outside Jeddah we arrange trips to Makkah, Taif and nearby cities by advance booking, priced by load and destination. In summer we prefer to start the Taif trip at dawn, because the mountain road at noon is hard on vehicle and load alike, while Taif itself is cooler on arrival.
Why Jeddah Dabab Express in summer?
We cannot make the heat go away, but we can deal with it sensibly: the right slot, the right cover and no stops. If the move is bigger than a dabab we tell you at the start, and if waiting two hours for maghrib is better for your furniture we say so, even if it costs us a booking. Our full service is on the dabab furniture moving in Jeddah page, and for single pieces see dabab furniture transport in Jeddah.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best time to move furniture in Jeddah summer?
The best time is from dawn until about eight in the morning, then from after maghrib until midnight. In those windows the sun is absent or weak, the roads are calmer and the crew works faster, so the move finishes sooner and safer.
Does a night move cost more?
The pricing basis does not change at night: we work 24 hours and the price is built on load, distance and floor, not the clock. A single piece inside the district starts from SAR 45, and the final price is agreed before loading.
Can leather furniture be damaged by summer heat during a move?
A short, covered trip rarely harms it, but leaving leather uncovered under the midday sun causes fading, cracking and a sticky surface. We cover leather with a blanket, strap the load and set off straight after loading.
How long should I wait before switching appliances on after a hot move?
Follow each manufacturer’s instructions, as they set the waiting time. As a general rule, let electronics reach the temperature of the air-conditioned room before switching them on, and run the fridge as its manual says.
Can I move at midday if I have no other time?
Yes, with an arrangement that limits the risk: everything ready before the dabab arrives, loading from shade where possible, a fully covered load and no stops on the way. Work is a little slower because the crew needs water and short breaks.
What should I keep out of a summer load?
Keep medicines, candles, cosmetics, perfumes, perishable food and delicate plants out of the load. Carry them in your air-conditioned car, because the dabab bed gets far hotter than a room in summer.
Does Jeddah humidity harm wooden furniture?
Yes. High humidity plus heat can swell the edges of MDF and loosen hinges, especially when furniture is wrapped in plastic while damp and left for hours. We wrap pieces dry and remove the film soon after arrival.
Do you move during Ramadan in summer?
Yes. In the holy month the best slots shift, and the period after taraweeh until suhoor becomes one of the most suitable. Our guide to moving furniture in Ramadan in Jeddah covers this in detail.
How long does a small flat move take in summer?
Usually a little longer than in winter, because work in the heat needs breaks. An early or evening slot brings the time close to normal, and preparing in advance saves a large share of it.
